SERVING INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES LIVING WITH MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS IN MIDDLESEX COUNTY SINCE 1968

Road Race

Thank you Team Gilead!

“Q Will You Move For?”  That is how Team Gilead started our annual Move for Every 1 event on Sunday, April 7. Our vibrant tie-dye t-shirts paid homage to our beloved friend Quentin “Q” Williams as we celebrated his life and love for Middletown at our 10th annual Road Race. Whether you moved with us, cheered us on, shared your story, or donated in support of our cause, you made this day one to remember. Thanks to you, Team Gilead was 500+ strong and raised over $60,000!

There are many ways to make a donation and help support the 1600+ Gilead clients receiving mental health and substance abuse services.

1. Donate to the Team Gilead fundraising page!  Click here to donate to a specific Team member or make a general donation.

2. Click here to Sponsor a Client!  A donation of $250 pays for a new pair of sneakers for a client, t-shirt, registration costs, medals, incentive and raffle items!

3. Click here to Sponsor a Program!  A donation of $500 help pay for sneakers, t-shirts, medals, incentive and raffle items plus in-person registration costs and/or movement equipment for a program.

4. Quickly and easily make a donation through Venmo.  Click here or scan QR code below.

Thank you!

This year, we will be honoring Quentin “Q” Williams. In celebration of Q’s legacy and love for Middletown, Team Gilead is collectively moving for Q – a special dedication we’re calling “Q Will You Move For?”

We encourage our Road Race participants and members of Team Gilead to join us in celebrating Q. Here are ways you can join us:

  • Write a “Q Will You Move For” story to share with Gilead. Participants can dedicate their Road Race to Q and tell us why.
  • Register here for the Road Race with Team Gilead! This year’s shirt will honor Q.
  • Wear colorful and fun race-day attire. People remember seeing Q at the Road Race and the gym wearing flashy and fun outfits. This is a celebration of him, let’s celebrate Q-style!

We also invite participants to join Team Gilead before or after the race at First Church in Middletown and write a message/story/memory about Q on our “Q Will You Move For” poster.

We hope you can join us on April 7th.

About TEAM GILEAD

The Run for Every 1 is an initiative Gilead began in 2014 to bring our clients, staff, families, and community members together through a shared dedication to TEAM GILEAD.  In 2020 & 2021, the annual April Run for Every 1 in Middletown was not to be. So we switched gears to a virtual event and moved alone but stay connected. During the weeklong event, we received over 350 photos and videos showcasing how our team members were moving for mental health – yoga, walking, headstands, swimming and so much more! In 2022 we were thrilled to be able to once again meet up and walk or run together in Middletown as well offering a virtual option for those not ready to meet in person or who may live too far.  In 2024, we celebrated 10 years of the event!

Last year, our team of peer-to-peer fundraisers brought in $19,700!  We’d love to have you join our team of fundraisers by creating your own page, sharing your link with friends & family and asking them to make a donation to your page.  Share your Who Will You Walk/Run/Move for story on your page and help reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and substance abuse. More than 1 in 5 adults living in America experience a mental illness.  We’re all impacted.

All fundraisers who raise $500 or more will be entered into a raffle for a $100 Downtown Middletown gift card, redeemable at more than 90 restaurants, shops and venues.

TEAM GILEAD RACE DAY INFO!

Where do I park?

Gilead will have some designated free parking spots close to First Church, including on-street parking on Court St. & Broad St. There are also many free & paid options, please click here for more details.

Questions about road closures?  Please click here for road closure details.

Where are we meeting?

We will all meet at First Church of Christ in Middletown at 190 Court Street in Middletown. (http://www.firstchurchmiddletown.org/).  Bathrooms, water and light snacks will be available at FIRST CHURCH prior to the race.

What happens before the race?

We will be gathering as a group at 11 a.m. across the street from First Church. We need everyone’s participation for a group photo – whether you’re walking, running, cheering or volunteering. We show strength in numbers and to see everyone come together to show support is a very powerful message about the importance of mental health and addiction services.  It’s what this day is all about!

For those TEAM GILEAD members walking/running, we would like to walk to the starting line together, leaving the team photo location by 11:20 a.m. If we all stick together on the way to the starting line, our photographer can get a photo of this amazing group of advocates moving for mental health and addiction. Once there, walkers are asked to stay to the back of the starting line to clear the route for runners.

The 5K & 10K races starts at 11:30am. HMF FitKids Run (start & finish is on Old Church Street at the finish line) begins at 10:45am.

What happens after the race?

Gilead’s CHEERERS will be at the finish line at the Union Park at South Green (across the street from Mondo’s Pizzeria) to cheer on TEAM GILEAD. Please consider joining them when you are finished the race to cheer on other team members. Check out Gilead’s table at the South Green where we’ll be sharing information about the Mental Health Resource Center!

Come back to First Church for lasagna, bread, salad and homemade desserts after the race anytime between 12:15 to 2:00 pm.
